KPMG's Quarterly Audit Committee Webcast
Thursday, January 8, 2009 | 11:00 a.m. - 12:10 p.m. (EST)
Conversations that Matter, About Risks that Matter
What Does a Healthy, Constructive Conversation about Risk Sound Like?
With the tumultuous events of recent months - and tough times ahead - companies and boards across Corporate America are devoting more time to discussing risk and reassessing the adequacy of the company's risk management processes. Yet some of these risk discussions will yield significantly greater insight than others - for a fundamental reason: they're better conversations.
KPMG’s Audit Committee Institute (ACI) and the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) invite you to tune-in to the next KPMG Quarterly Audit Committee Webcast as expert panelists - including Dow Chemical and Aetna director Barbara H. Franklin, and MIT Fellow Michael Schrage - share their views on the characteristics and content of robust risk discussions. Among the key questions we’ll consider:
- What does a healthy, productive risk conversation sound like?
- Who should be part of these discussions - and how frequently should they happen?
- How deep should the board dig?
- When and how should the board seek input from third parties?
The risks posed by the current financial crisis and recession - from liquidity and third-party exposure to asset impairments and MD&A disclosures—provide valuable context and real-world examples for this live Webcast discussion (with Q&A).
Webcast Panel
The Honorable Barbara H. Franklin Director, Dow Chemical and Aetna; former U.S. Secretary of Commerce
Michael Schrage Research Fellow, MIT's Sloan School of Management
Kenneth Daly President/CEO, National Association of Corporate Directors
The Webcast will be hosted by Terry Iannaconi, partner in charge of KPMG's Department of Professional Practice - Knowledge Sharing, and former deputy chief accountant in the SEC's Division of Corporate Finance.
